"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us."    II Corinthians 4:7

"What happened to you?"

It’s only natural for people to ask this question when they see me. Please don’t feel embarrassed for noticing my handicap. I am happy to share my story with you.

My name is Becky Vaughn and on May 20, 1978, the year that I was two years old, my mother and I were critically burned in a house fire that happened in our home in Greenville, South Carolina. For many months I lay unconscious in a burn unit in Cincinnati, Ohio, while my mother was several hundred miles away in the burn unit of the Medical University in Charleston, South Carolina.

I have seen God work miracle after miracle by allowing my mother’s initial hospital bill of $175,000 to be paid on schedule and by providing more than $1 million for my follow-up care expenses. But the greatest miracle of my life occurred on Father’s Day of 1982 when I pushed my little walker down the aisle of Faith Baptist Church in Greenville, and my dad led me to accept Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour.

I have grown up in church and have heard over and over that all men are sinners. When I became old enough to understand, I realized that I, too, would be held responsible for my sin. By claiming the truth that is found in Romans 6:23, I realized that my physical suffering would not pay for my sins. Only placing our trust in Christ’s death on the cross can pay for our sins.

Since I have been saved, I have learned the truth of II Corinthians 4:7: "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us."

Although I am an adult now, I continue to experience the truth that I have everything I need to do God’s perfect will for my life. My body has suffered the flames of this life, but my soul will never suffer the flames of eternity. I have the treasure of eternal life because I have accepted Christ.

I am telling you this story because I want you to escape the "death" of eternal punishment in the flames of Hell. I have trusted in the death of Christ on the cross to pay for my sin - won’t you trust Him, too?

If you would like to have the same assurance of eternal life that I have, read these Bible verses for guidance:

"And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." - I John 5:11-13

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." - Romans 10:9-10
